Tenali in Slack
Tenali has a Slack app that answers questions from your sales calls, documents and CRM. It works in two places — a direct message and a channel mention — and the two behave differently on purpose.
What it is
Connect Slack once from Tenali's Integrations page and the Tenali app appears in your workspace. From then on:
- DM Tenali and get answers from your meetings, transcripts, documents, action items and CRM records.
- Tag Tenali in a channel (
@Tenali what's our stance on SOC 2?) and it replies in that thread for everyone to see. - Send it a file in the DM and Tenali indexes it as a private source, then messages you when it's ready to answer from.
- Ask it to update your CRM and it posts a card with each proposed change for you to approve or discard.
There are no slash commands. You write in plain language.
The DM vs. channel boundary
This is the most important thing to understand about the product, and it is enforced in the software rather than left to configuration.
| Direct message | Channel mention | |
|---|---|---|
| Your meetings, summaries, transcripts | Yes | No |
| Your documents and private sources | Yes | No |
| Your action items | Yes | No |
| Your CRM records | Yes | No |
| Sources published organization-wide | Yes | Yes |
| Remembers the conversation | Yes — across the whole DM | Within the tagged thread only |
A channel reply can only draw on the organization's shared knowledge base. Meetings, call recordings, CRM records and individuals' private files cannot be opened on that surface — including by administrators. This exists so that tagging Tenali in a channel can never expose one person's private material to the room.
One caveat worth stating plainly: answers Tenali auto-captures from customer questions detected on calls are saved as organization-visible Auto-captured answers, so their wording — drawn from what was said on a call — is part of that shared knowledge base. Admins should review them under Admin → Questions before inviting Tenali into a channel containing people outside the company.
If nothing in the shared knowledge base covers the question, Tenali says so rather than falling back to private material.
Installation
Tenali is not listed in the Slack App Directory. You add it from inside Tenali: open Integrations, click Connect on the Slack row, and authorize. Workspaces that require admin approval for new apps will prompt for that during connection.
Each person connects their own Slack account. Tenali answers each individual through their own access — connecting does not grant anyone visibility into a colleague's meetings, files or pipeline.
Slack channels as a knowledge source
Separately from the assistant, Tenali can learn from Slack channels you choose:
- You pick channels one at a time — the workspace's public channels, and the private channels you're a member of. Tenali reads through your own Slack access, so it can never reach a private channel you couldn't open yourself.
- The initial import covers the channel's history including threaded replies; new messages posted to the channel are picked up automatically afterwards, typically within the same day. Replies added inside an existing thread, and edits or deletions, need a manual Refresh.
- Signal filtering: Tenali reviews messages before indexing and keeps the ones carrying real information — decisions, explanations, pricing, customer context — leaving out chit-chat, reactions and alert noise. When it can't tell whether a message matters, it keeps it. The review is bounded by volume: on a very large import, messages past a certain point are indexed without being reviewed rather than dropped.
- Private and externally-shared channels can be your own source but cannot be published organization-wide.
CRM updates from Slack
Where a workspace has CRM write-back enabled, you can ask Tenali in a DM to update HubSpot or Salesforce from what was said on a call. It posts a Proposed CRM changes card showing, for each change: the action, the record, the field-by-field before and after, the reason it matched that record, the quote from the meeting, and a match-confidence percentage.
In Slack, nothing is written until you approve it — including additive changes like notes and tasks. The buttons (Approve all / Discard) act on the whole batch. The web app is where you can approve changes individually.
Limits
- 20 questions per minute, per person.
- Up to 3 files per message, 25 MB each; only files sent in the DM are ingested.
- Channel replies have URLs and
@here/@channelmentions stripped out, so Tenali cannot ping a room or post an internal link into a channel. - Tenali replies in channels it has been invited to. It does not join channels by itself, and it does not post announcements, digests or notifications.
- Slack huddles are recorded by the Tenali desktop app, which treats Slack as a fully supported meeting platform (audio and screen capture, no time limit). That is separate from this Slack app, which answers questions.
Common questions
Does Tenali post in our channels on its own? No. It replies when tagged, in channels it's been invited to.
Can someone pull up private calls by tagging it in a channel? It cannot open the call itself — no recording, no transcript, no meeting record — and that restriction is enforced in the product, including for admins. What a channel reply can use is the organization's shared knowledge, and that includes any answer Tenali auto-captured from a question asked on a call, because those are saved organization-visible. Admins should review them under Admin → Questions before Tenali is invited into a channel with people outside the company.
Does it sync our CRM? No. CRM records are read live at the moment you ask; nothing is copied into Tenali.
Where do we install it? From Tenali's Integrations page — it isn't in the Slack App Directory.
